Areas of Responsibility

The Council advises the Bishops Commission for Administration and Information on:

  • The promotion of the life and mission of the Catholic Church in Australia in the area of work and the employment  relationship.
  • Matters relating to work and the employment relationship in areas of Catholic Church employment.
  • Advocacy in support of work and the employment relationship in Australian society, based on Catholic Social Doctrine and in co-operation with the Bishops Commission for Health and Community Services and the Bishops Commission for Justice, Ecology and Development.

Number of Members

Appointment of up to eight (8) councillors, plus one ex officio member being the Bishops’ Delegate for Employment Relations.

Appointment of Members

Following the appointment of members to the bishops’ commissions at the May Plenary Meeting, the Bishops Commission for Administration and Information, at the November Plenary Meeting, will recommend Councillors for appointment to a three (3) year term. Councillors may be re-appointed for one or two subsequent terms.

Appointment of Chairperson

The Bishops Commission for Administration and Information, on recommendation from the Council, will appoint the Chairman for a three (3) year term from the membership of the Council.

Frequency and Place of Meetings

The Council will ordinarily meet in conference twice a year for one day between each Plenary Meeting at a venue of mutual convenience.
The Council may also meet by audio conference as required between each of the conferences.

Administrative Support

The Office for Employment Relations, will coordinate administrative support to the Council.
